The glorious Jazz Age shines brightly in Septime Webre's adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's cherished novel, coming to the Muriel Kauffman Theatre in May 2026, courtesy of the Kansas City Ballet. Let the gorgeous Art Deco-inspired costumes and sumptuous sets by designer Tim Yip transport you back to the Jazz Age, where the mystery of self-made millionaire Jay Gatsby captures the imaginations of the well-heeled West Egg community.
The Great Gatsby follows the fortunes of writer Nick Carraway, whose life is changed forever when he goes to stay with his cousin Daisy Buchanan in the exclusive West Egg neighborhood. The locals are up in arms about fabulously rich new resident Jay Gatsby, who appears to have it all. But are things exactly as they seem, or is this strange gentleman hiding a darker side?
