Chicago & REO Speedwagon

Chicago & REO Speedwagon at Starlight Theater

Why see Chicago & REO Speedwagon?

What's better than one classic rock band from Illinois? Why, two classic rock bands from Illinois of course. REO Speedwagon and Chicago have joined forces for a co-headlining tour which will run for the month of August. Both bands careers have spanned the decades, selling countless millions of records between them. Chicago's commercial peak came with 1976's Number 1 single If You Leave Me Now, while REO are maybe most well known for their power-ballad Can't Fight this Feeling Anymore, which has been covered by everyone from Russell Brand (in the movie Rock of Ages) to Glee.

The two groups will be performing their own mini-sets before joining together for the encore. The only problem will be choosing which tracks to pluck from their two mammoth catalogues.

Chicago rocked, REO was lame

I've never been a huge REO Speedwagon fan. I was at Wednesday night's concert to see Chicago. I've seen Chicago many times and they always rock. I'm a huge fan of the horns. REO sounded weak and the bass was way too much. The overall sound of the band was tired and worn out. They played all of their wimpy ballads and very few of the songs that actually rock. I knew going into the concert that Chicago was going to play their second album from beginning to end. I knew that I wouldn't know many of the songs so I just had to wait it out until midway through their set list. The wait was well worth it. I know I'm in the minority here. Chicago rocked their songs while REO was a huge disappointment. Chicago's show was a huge success even without Peter Cetera. ... Read more

Chicago and REO

I thought REO was ok, but I totally loved Chicago. The thing I've always loved about them is their horns. I thought they were phenomenal. They may have not performed all their hit songs, but what they did play was great. ... Read more

REO great as always

REO was great as always. Kevin was right on with the vocals. Bruce and Dave sounded amazing. Plus Neal and Bryan were awesome as they always are. I've never been disappointed with an REO concert, and I've been to over 70. The same can't be said for Chicago. I saw them the last time they toured with REO (2014) and they were amazing. But last nights show was definitely not a good idea. Playing the entire Chicago 2 album, what were they thinking. Next time, give us a heads up before we buy the tickets (although I still would have gone to see REO). One last observation: I've never seen a venue shut down the general admission lawn seating and move everybody to reserved seating. Where were all the true reo fans. I know you're out there. I've seen you at other shows. REO, come back soon. Austin loves you, we always have and we always will. ... Read more
