A wallow in disfunction, lacking substance and musical content
I really wanted to like Stereophonic, and as a recording engineer, I was excited to see how a show set in a studio would play out. However, by the intermission, I was contemplating leaving after what seemed like endless and overly drawn-out diatribe on ego, poor interpersonal skills, and couples working out their issues. I felt the point had been made very early on, and what little music there was failed to make up for my frustration. It was filled with long, dramatic silences in the hope of lending gravitas to many of the scenes, but that only added to the utter unnecessary belaboring. The music, when allowed to shine, was really good, and their performances showed just how much talent these artists have. Unfortunately, there just wasn't enough, and they were just snippets to show the vagaries of the recording process. This could easily be tightened up to half its length, even with the addition of more music.
Should have stayed Off Broadway
So disappointing. Really thought there was some good music involved. Hardly any. Band members with egos that just can’t seem to get along or appreciate where they are in life. Awful audio, Boring, Uninteresting characters, Same set design and after 3 hours we had enough. Can’t see this lasting another week.
