ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!

Billy Elliot is funny, touching and more! The set designs are amazing, as well as the lighting. The chorography is frightening - sometimes it looks like someone could get HURT up there!! The music is wonderful, and the entire cast performs at top notch. You will take Billy to your heart as if he were your son. The message is loud and clear and makes you feel alive. You are going to LOVE Billy Elliot. It's one of the best Broadway shows I've ever seen. The audience stands and applauds forever! Do not miss it!!

I'M NOT USUALLY A THEATER-GOER BUT......

we just had a wonderful trip to the bay area.....the ocean, the chowder, the friends, the family! out of the usual agenda, we went to see Billy Elliot. i can't tell you what an ABSOLUTE joy this show was (although i had to buy make-up after the show to cover my cry lines). EVERYBODY in the cast was perfect......trust me SEE IT! (if the tour makes it to L.A. i am going to put it in a package through my travel agency hmmmm..)

WOW

If you have not seen this, you must! I attended the Sat. 2012.08.04 show with Ben Cook as Billy. He was amazing! The entire cast and production was by far more entertaining than I anticipated. I enjoyed it so much I already have tickets for Baltimore. Yes, I will travel to see this show again, probably more than once. Excellent! p.s. front row seats are worth whatever you spend.

A SURPRISING "WOW'.

I have to say, i was very surprised how good it was. I did not expect it to be that good. WOW!

OUR NEW #1 STAGE SHOW

My wife and I agreed Billy Elliot is the best stage show we've ever seen. That wouldn't mean much if we were in our 20s, or even our 30s, but we're both 70+ and have attended more than just a few stage shows during the past 50 years. The show was absolutely brilliant, to include the staging, choreography, and acting. The young man who played Billy on 12/18, whose name we unfortunatly can't recall (we're over 70), was fantastic; from the "Playbill" we do remember he is from the eastern part of Massachusetts. Some of the dialogue was difficult to catch due to the appropriate British/Scottish accents, but that in no way detracted from our enjoyment of the show. We can't recommend the Billy Elliot production at the Hippodrome highly enough. If you're looking for a fun night out at the theater, go see it!!! PS...Some language in the show may not be appropriate for young children; we'd grade it PG16. A young child sitting behing us, age about 12, just didn't enjoy the show.

BEST SHOW

This is the best show you will ever see. Humor, politics, love, accepting one's true self, dance, music... everything art should be. You will not be disappointed.

SEE BILLY ELLIOT THE MUSICAL

For people who have seen many plays and musicals, Billy Elliot The Musical is the best show that they have ever seen. Read the history of the British Miners strike, don't drink alcohol before the show, and pay attention. You will agree that this show is the best. The best night out at the theater.

LONDON PRODUCTION WAS FABULOUS

Haven't seen the tour version, but did catch the London version several years ago. London production was fabulous, and I expect the tour version will be close as tour production will hopefully follow formula. Will bring my daughter to see it again, as well as the rest of the family to see the Vancouver production. I read some harsh reviews on this board, so i hope the tour versions will live up (which i anticipate it will) to the 10 Tony awards the Broadway production received. i thought the accents added to the authenticity. cheers.

AMAZING TALENT LEAPS INTO CALGARY

Billy Elliot is a must see for theatre lovers. The caliber of talent and the emotional effect the show has on the audience is "electrifying".

AWE STRUCK!

This was absolutely wonderful! The stage was well done. I can not believe these kids are so talented! I would see this over and over again!

LISTEN CAREFULLY

I read some of the reviews in disbelief. Concern about language--well coal miners rarely graduated from Oxford or Cambridge. A 26-year old bothered by the words "pissed-off." WOW, what a prude. Oh yes, it is the bible belt. The English accents were clear and brought a reality to the show. I have more trouble understanding American English dialects. Well, the dancing is fabulous, but there are some boring moments so 4 stars and well deserved.

I WAS DISAPPOINTED

I was so looking forward to this show for years and when it came to WPB I couldn't wait. I found it hard to understand, and felt like I was watching the movie with dance routines etc. some of the dancing was wonderful, cannot remember one song or do I feel like I need to buy the soundtrack (sorry Elton) I am a New Yorker and nothing compares to Broadway and this didn't for sure

NOT SO MUCH.....

Well, I was very much looking forward to it. Never knew the story, walked away feeling a little down. I wanted a musical musical, not a dramatic musical....... shoulda done my research. Billy Elliot stumbled many times, and the accents were VERY tough to understand. The stage at the Opera House is too small for this show. Bummer overall......esp for the $$$$

NEEDS WORK

Having read the marketing hype, I very much looked forward to seeing Billy Elliot, the Musical. Reviews were far and few. Here's mine. Buyer beware! First of all and irrespective of the performance, the excessive amplification nearly made my ears bleed. What's up with that?!? Even for a Brit, a North England accent can be hard to understand, so why have actors speak in a bad accent in the US which only serves to make the words more difficult to understand. I'm a working musician. I'm not picky. The band was good. However, I walked away with not the slightest memorable tune in my head. And lastly, there isn't nearly enough book to warrant a three-hour production. This production reads more like a road show just past workshop rather that a full-price B'way show. If you go, take ear plugs.

IF YOU LIKED THE MOVIE YOU WON'T LIKE THE PLAY

The play is loosely based on the movie. It's almost a whole different story about a boy during the British coalminers' strike who wants to learn ballet. That's just about where the similarities stop. I was really bored because it didn't have any of the excitement of the movie. The acting was only so-so except for Cook, who played Billy Elliot. He was awesome and I expect we'll hear from him again. Bottom line...save your money and just go rent the movie.

BILLY ELLIOT

I agree. save your money and rent the movie. It was difficult to understand the accents. The Billy that I saw fell several times. He didn't sing well. He was not in sinc in the dream scene. You actually watch the adult dancer hooking and unhooking the safety harness. Very weird. . I thought there would be better dancing by all. And singing, it is a musical! The only exciting part was the finale dance. By far my least favorite musical.

GOOD DANCING BUT FOUL LANGUAGE

I went with my parents to see Billy Elliott last night at the Kansas City Music Hall. Unlike the movie the play has numerous foul words. There is a parental guidance for the play that is for audiences over 12 but I believe it needs to be older. I am almost 26, and use the occasional bad word, but if I had children they would not be seeing this play. I could handle a few curse words here and there but when they repeatedly use the F-word or "Piss off" I have a problem. These words should not be in a 12+ year olds musical. I don’t think the language was needed to express the casts’ feelings (it wasn’t in the movie). The dancing was great (4 stars!) but I would not see this play again unless the language is changed which is a shame because I believe it has a great story line and message for children and adolescents. Please change some of the language so that I could someday take my child to the theater to see this musical.. otherwise I will stick with the movie (child friendly)version
