IF YOU LIKED THE MOVIE YOU WON'T LIKE THE PLAY

The play is loosely based on the movie. It's almost a whole different story about a boy during the British coalminers' strike who wants to learn ballet. That's just about where the similarities stop. I was really bored because it didn't have any of the excitement of the movie. The acting was only so-so except for Cook, who played Billy Elliot. He was awesome and I expect we'll hear from him again. Bottom line...save your money and just go rent the movie.

BILLY ELLIOT

I agree. save your money and rent the movie. It was difficult to understand the accents. The Billy that I saw fell several times. He didn't sing well. He was not in sinc in the dream scene. You actually watch the adult dancer hooking and unhooking the safety harness. Very weird. . I thought there would be better dancing by all. And singing, it is a musical! The only exciting part was the finale dance. By far my least favorite musical.

GOOD DANCING BUT FOUL LANGUAGE

I went with my parents to see Billy Elliott last night at the Kansas City Music Hall. Unlike the movie the play has numerous foul words. There is a parental guidance for the play that is for audiences over 12 but I believe it needs to be older. I am almost 26, and use the occasional bad word, but if I had children they would not be seeing this play. I could handle a few curse words here and there but when they repeatedly use the F-word or "Piss off" I have a problem. These words should not be in a 12+ year olds musical. I don’t think the language was needed to express the casts’ feelings (it wasn’t in the movie). The dancing was great (4 stars!) but I would not see this play again unless the language is changed which is a shame because I believe it has a great story line and message for children and adolescents. Please change some of the language so that I could someday take my child to the theater to see this musical.. otherwise I will stick with the movie (child friendly)version
